I’m starting a new job next month and I’m planning on taking the train. It’s a few miles to the station from my home, and then another couple of miles at the other end.

I was hoping to bike it either end, which leads me to by biking dilemma:

Option 1: Buy a folding bike and take it with me on the train.

Option 2: Keep an old (ie hopefully not too nickable) bike at the station either end

Option 1 will mean laying out for a folding bike and having to lug it to the platform and on to the train (lots of steps at station).

Option 2 means I only need to by a £50 eBay bike as I already have an old pub bike I could use for one of them. I would of course run the risk of bike being nicked or vandalised. Hopefully my bikes would be old enough not to attract too much unwanted attention.

    Appreciate any though or advice

    Cheers lads

How far is the journey? Why don’t you just ride all the way.

That would be nice, but Reading to Guildford would be a bit far…

Yeah – probably a bit far to do daily. I’d go for a foldup bike. Wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving a bike locked up for long periods. It might get lonely. 🙂

I’d pick folding too. Any bike will get nicked eventually. Do you deffo need a folding bike on that route tho?
