There’s a sports shop (can’t remember the name) on the same site as Ikea at Jtn 27 M62. They sell Karrimor walking shoes for £20. I bought a pair last September and another a month ago. Really comfortable and a snip at the price. Done things like Pen-y-Ghent & Ingleborough wearing them.

Comfiest I’ve found are my timberland ones – basically goretex lined trainers with a chunky sole on them. Bit on the bright side though, so not for “best”!

Got them for cheap at their store in Cheshire Oaks.

merrels for holiday duty. i had a pair of north face which i got from blacks dirt cheap, which were bloody comfortable, but fell apart after a year of twice daily off road dog walks.

could try inov-8s they mainly do fell shoes, but some are designed for climbing approach and walking. They’re a good alternative to full walking boots.

i have been using the clarks air sandals for 18 month, no problem.
they have a leather insole, i think with my foot sweating and the leather getting damp, that has caused the friction.
i am gonna use walking shoes and coolmax socks from now on.
with a sprinkling of talc too.
