Another good one. Well done Sanity Assassin and crew. 10 mins faster than last year and first Singlespeed. Ok, might have been only SS! ;0)

Yes, a big thank you to all the crew and marshals. And Elvis in the quarry. Hope the bloke on the floor behind Meltham is ok.

It was a cracking event indeed, lots of fun. Elvis was brilliant and I like the piper up Wessenden too, nice to have some unexpected sights and sounds to liven things up. Very pleased with knocking over ten minutes off last year’s time myself too.

MrSparkle were you on the red Voodoo singlespeed?

Yep, that was me. Elvis made me smile too. I had Jailhouse Rock in my head for ages after. I was going to say ‘Thangyewverymuch’ to him but he wouldn’t have heard! ;0)

Pics are up on Sport Sunday, btw. http://www.sportsunday.co.uk/portfolio307608.html

great event, forgot about the bagpiper (and all them evil climbs)! if you didn’t do this one, ya missed out! 😉

bloody good ride that simon on a single speed (top ten with gears)? 😉

did you see the young lad playing the banjo in his garden too?

thank god I brought the multi tool out (cleats almost came off) maybe this is why I had knee pain too?

anyway thanks to everyone involved – great success!

gonna put my t-shirt on now, have a beer and catch up on the Giro!

Great event as always 🙂 Will be back next year for sure.
Only managed 10 miles before this happened but I was on a role for once and was holding tightly onto 6th place. Curse you stupid flimsy lightweight over priced tyres.

Great event but my legs really bloody hurt now. Can’t believe the winning times and I’m struggling to understand how single speed is even possible. Well done MrSparkle.

Yeesh, sealant ain’t going to fix that is it? Nightmare. 🙁

    (Thanks again for the beer!)

I heard 2h03 was the fastest, is that right? Flipping amazing if it is…

I’ve got a good mind to write to Stans and complain!!!

No worries on the beer buddy.

I was talking to the timing people at the end and the winner absolutely flew in at the end and wasn’t even out of breath.
Next year they’re dope testing haha 😀 I’d better watch out!

Edit: I forgot they said he had taken a wrong turn so could have done it quicker…….my hat is firmly off to that young man!

Great event this year with all the music on the way around. Enjoyed it more than last year, but was 6 minutes slower.

    Thanks to the organisers!

Stevo just out of interest, how many miles a week do you ride to get that quick? I’m thinking my avg of about 100 miles a month isn’t going to be enough to get a half decent time 🙂

I did as well as could be expected this year given that I don’t train anymore and my chain device kept breaking. Somewhere in the 30’s after spending the whole race playing catch-up but thoroughly enjoyed it as I only entered for a bit of fun.

Stevo210- were you on a black 29er? I had a nice ding-dong with you up at the top of the climb at the start if so. I’ve been first up it the last 3 times I’ve done the CVMBC and couldn’t let it go this time!

FunkyDunc- I’ve been 6th and 8th before and did 80-100 miles most weeks but also did a lot of proper training stuff like hill reps as well as a lot of running (4 or 5 times a week) and climbing. It’s not so difficult to get to top 10 pace, getting to 2:03 pace on a day with chronic headwind is another story!

Pretty much the same story as Munrobiker above…80-100miles a week, a bit of running and swimming. I did the Holmfirth Tri in April so trained quite hard for that.

Na not me I’m running some retro dying breed of wheels, think they are 26″ 🙂 Good for you getting to the top first, I was just happy to get up and then try and make up some places on the flat.

I’d forgotten it was on and unwittingly rode the wessenden to meltham cop bit backwards as part of a ride yesterday, we were coming along the BW along the back of the cop when the leader came through, chuff me be was flying.

Hats off to the quick lads as it’s a tough route.

I loved Elvis in the Quarry.

    dope testing

    – I ‘failed’ the tests yesterday 😉 – after all – takes a proper dope to rock up to this kind of challenge, with sod all prep….
Came within half a pedal turn of calling it quits in Marsden, as the route pretty much passes my door but, I kept going and blobbed around in 4.28 – a full 30 mins slower than last year!
With the ride there and back, yesterday was 41 miles, 1650 mtrs of climbing… let this be a big lesson to me to get my butt in gear again…

As above, though, top event, Elvis was bonkers – almost stopped to rub my eyes and check i was seeing (and hearing) straight!

Big thanks to Mintimperial (and Andy) for waiting for me to finish and escorting my sorry carcass back home!

Another great day out. I missed last year so was eager to get back on it this year. Also have been getting fitter doing lots of (non cycling) training and expecting to get a big new PB. Well, I got the PB, but only by a few mins. I guess I need to go out and ride some more 🙂

Elvis was a masterstroke. Really was surreal, and the piper ‘borrowed’ from the Kielder 100 was a nice touch too.

Bloody cold at the top of the Pennine Way climb, can’t ever remember having numb fingers on the CVMBC before. Brrrr… And the Kirklees bridleway ‘refurb’ team have been out too. How long ago was Meltham cop smoothed over? It’s 18 months since I moved from there and haven’t been back since, but a great mud fest has been totally taken out.

Good speed down the hill into Marsden past the cricket ground. The Strava speed trap reckoned I was on 49mph – not bad for knobbly tyres 🙂

And good to see some familiar faces – mintimperial, we’ll have to get some dates in the diary for a catch up ride around those parts again 🙂

26 here too, although my tactic was the opposite to yours- get to the top first and the rest of the race can go hang! I got to the top then lost about 50 places while my breakfast tried to escape 8)

munrobiker….what kit did you have on, Star wheelers? or were you on a 456?

I am not even in that shot. I came up the right hand side from 50 places back. I was on a black Anthem in a turquoise and black striped jersey. I got to the top, my gears slipped and I said “all yours mate” to the guy next to me.

    19th

36th. Quite chuffed with that. 🙂

Nice one sefton, good ride. Looking at those times I could probably have got in the top 30 if my chain hadn’t come off and got wedged behind the cassette, cost me quite a bit of time that did.

Owd lad with bad back and arthritic knee on a Singlespeed riding on a 360 degree headwind so pretty happy with 20th. Can only put it down to saving time changing gear… 😀

Can I pretend to be Ben Trotter- came 3rd?
Actually I couldn’t make it due to injuring my shoulder badly the week before, but there’s always next year.

Would be nice if the route went down places like Wessenden valley rather than up. Obviously it’s more of a physical challenge to have more ups than downs but what about enjoyment? Or is it to do with minimising the health and safety risks?

Whatever, it gets the scouts (my old pack from many, many years ago) some funds so it’s worth supporting.

Nice to see a work mate came in the low 20’s as well.

31st which I am happy with considering my break downs but would have been top 15 without.

Because it was our 10th Anniversary this year I asked local lad Dave Longbottom, a keen, young photographer who loves filming mtb, to come along and make a short film to document the day for us.

    Here’s the result:
