  • Colapsed arches and orthotics – any users?

So I’ve been using custom orthotics in my day to day shoes for a couple of years. With the arch support my knees stop pointing inwards and alot of my knee and lower back pain have gone.

On the bike I tend to use blue specialised footbeds with wedges. This works great in my road shoes (giro) but on my mountain (sidi) my knees still point inward massively rubbing the top tube.

So at todays race I decided to use my custom orthotics. Instantly just sitting on the bike I could see my knee was in a better position and tracked up and down rather than a figure of 8. Finishing the race I’m in much better shape knees hurt far less than usual.

However, on about the 3 hr mark I started getting loads of pain in the outside of my feet presumably I was putting more pressure on the little toe than the others. It was pretty painful, close to cramp.

Anyone use orthotics for arch support and got any tips with dealing with foot pain like this? Does it just go away as your feet toughen up?

Anyone gone for custom orthotics specifically for cycling?
