Going abroad and thinking of packing my saddle bag containing a CO2 mini pump in my hold luggage as I’m hiring a bike out there.
Anyone done this ? Will it get x-rayed and removed/controlled explosion ?

They definitely don’t like it in hand luggage. Speaking from experience/fearing the glove.

I think compressed gas is a no-no in hold luggage too.

Irony being there’s one on every life jacket.

If they’re in a metal tube the xray machine won’t pick them up. Just saying, like.

buy some CO2 cartridges when you are out there?

Or just use a normal pump?

Can you recycle those things? They seem like a bit of a waste.

At about a quid each, just pay a native child to pump it up for you.

It’s not that surprising, or ironic, that they allow gas cartridges that have been tested and seen as safe etc on board, but don’t allow random people to bring on any old cartridge they happen to have bought from the cheapest seller on eBay.

Seems like a fairly sensible policy to me.

There are loads of things on a plane that you wouldn’t be able to carry onboard yourself, it’s just a matter of knowing the source.

I always pack CO2 canisters in the bike box, only had to remove them once (flying out of Portugal I think). Ironically Stansted threw their toys out the pram over a can of GT-85 in my bike box, but ignored the CO2 canisters….

Has anyone ever had a co2 canister spontaneously rupture?

Just chuck the used ones in with steel recycling, as once empty, it’s just a bit of steel.
