A few on the bike but I came very close to an IRA bomb some years ago.

My train had got into London Bridge and I was just off the main platforms and onto the sloping ramps that take you to the pedestrian link tunnel and Wooomph! and a bloody great shockwave ripples through you.

I did turn around as I was up to date on first aid at that time but was told not to. Got to work okay before they shut the network down then turned to jelly for a bit.

It was only a pound or two of semtex but not a good experience. I don’t think anyone was killed but some serious injuries.

Not me… but my mate was climbing in the peak, can’t remember the route I think it was an E6, he’d placed a rubbish piece of gear a few feet below and at below half height was his next piece of gear. He was topping out and slipped, the belayer jumped off the belay ledge, the first bit of gear popped out, my mate dropped all of about 50 feet and his bum dusted the ground.

That was proper near death, or massively crippling if the belayer hadn’t jumped off the ledge.

He did scream like a girl when he fell though, and it’s on youtube somewhere…..

I guy I used to know was up the Twin Towers on 9/11 having breakfast; came down around quarter to nine and was 2 blocks away when the first plane hit.

The only booking they could get was for a 07.30am, chance are if they’d got the time they wanted he’d have been up there 😯

had a close one the other day, slowed down for a roundabout but then accelerated as the car coming around was signalling to turn off before me… evidently the driver didn’t mean that junction as they kept coming around. Almost went back around the roundabout completely. Went home for a shower after that

Got mugged in Amsterdam. 4 chaps were not happy with the measly contents of my wallet so I was thrown out into the road. I smacked into the side of a speeding Ford Escort; Somehow I got away with a broken jaw only. Biting through my tongue saved my teeth, so said the Doc. A moment earlier and I’d have been under it’s wheels and squished.

Riding down Snowdon Rhydd Du path in March this year, loads of snow. Had a bit of an OTB and fell left.
No big deal? … except for the fact that it was about here!

Somehow managed to a) self-arrest and b) catch the bike as it somersalted over me on the <10feet of 45 degree snow-slope below which was a few hundred feet of rocky nothingness!
