it really cant be beyond the wit of the hamster wranglers to put a simple “10 post count in /forum/off-topic before unlocking posting rights in the classifieds” condition in place can it?
Just tracked back on this. The thread was closed because we believe the poster is a trader, which is against forum rules, and has had several accounts banned previously for the same reason.
So you’re not going to get scammed, this time. Probably. But hopefully Prince Adam has learned an important lesson about life.
I maybe wrong but I’ve noticed a little more transparency from the mods in relation to why threads are getting closed over the past few days. A very positive step forward IMO.

They have farmed modding out to volunteer monkeys who are currently dizzy with power. Once they become jaded and overworked they will also stop communicating with us the people and issue angry diktats from the central politbureau.
Perhaps for access to the FS Forum you should be required to register CC details
I think there might be data protection issues with that – might be hard to justify holding someone’s card details when there is no intention to charge them for something.
And would it be worth the hassle for STW to have to hold them sufficiently securely?

I expect it’d be a non-starter purely from the point of view of accountability. The classifieds are run as a free service with the understanding that people act responsibly. If Singletrack Towers start taking CC details, it could be inferred that they’re suddenly responsible when things go wrong.
It’s already a monumental time sink to look after without having to start resolving disputes every five minutes. If you want that degree of functionality and reassurance, I’d suggest taking your trading to eBay instead.
