Taken by myself a friend on the crux of a route somewhere near kendal I think, excuse the watermark, this was done when i thought putting a watermark on a picture made you a better photographer!

Time to dig out the scanner for some pics on Gogarth. I’m still twitching 15 years later… From UKC “On the main crags there is little in the lower grades, and a degree of composure is required to deal with the infamous Gogarth ‘grip’ factor.”

snap on Red Wall as well

I did some VS s last summer. My son was dead keen then I got a frozen shoulder. The joys of old age.

Are you in contact with any other CUMC. I’ve even lost contact with Alistair now

@ampthill Yep it catches up with you, I had a long spell off with bad shoulders, my rotator cuffs are pretty tattered. Holding up again now so long as I’m careful.

I see Kate P. every now and again, and very loosely in touch with some of the SJC lot. I should really try and get hold of Rick when I’m in Switzerland this summer…

Another one of Udlaidh, the day I did Captain Hook (ice curtain up the centre) with a couple of guys on QVS to the left:

The picture of the guy on a Via ferrata with the bike above is pretty hardcore – I’d want a harness and lanyards if I was carrying a bike, clip the bike in separately though.

@ampthill – I think that was just Seamstress, nice and easy with plenty of opportunity for photos 🙂 I never seem to have photos of hard stuff, I guess I’m normally too gripped to care at the time!

Yes I have so few photos from climbing

One of the few is me on Mau mau above. Just lucky that Elleptic happened to wander up into the quarries and find us with his camera that day

I have virtually no shots of me climbing. My mother has one of me on Scratch Arete at Tremadog wearing green Ron Hills, but I’m not sure that would ever be suitable for public consumption.

    neil, those are brilliant!

i’d love to do some big wall in the (distant) future. My other half was reading an article about El Cap and said to me “Where is “Big Wall”?”. I told her that it was a special mountain in Romania. She replied by saying “Hmmm, we should go there, but I’d like to be able to lead first so you don’t have to do all the pitches”.

    🙂

Thanks PP, it is a stunning place, done a total of about 10 weeks out there over a couple of years (back around 2005). The first trip I was with a mate who led a bit harder than I did but I tended to be a touch quicker, the second year I did all the leading, which also means all the hauling, or self belaying the next pitch while your second cleans then hauls. Once you get your head around it all and develop a rhythm the pitches fly by. On Lurking Fear I was climbing with an American lad I met up with, we did the route (minus 2 top pitches as I needed to get an afternoon bus out to LA to fly home) in a day and a half. Not exactly record breaking, but I’d like to think we were shifting!
