What’s the best way if smelly and covered in mud?

I’ve put them through the washing machine before on a low heat 30c but I think it damages the water proofing, and it certainly hastens thier demise in terms of uppers Comming away from soles and seams weakening.

Sponge down with and old kitchen Sponge? I’ve put bicarbonate in them for the smell sometimes but when they get damp you get white sodium ‘tide marks’

    How do you clean yours?

I stiff brush , a bucket and some nik wax yech wash. Fill with water, add tech wash, leave to soak for a while if the mud has dried then scrub.
Best bet is to hose them down while the mud is still wet

I usually go and stand in the stream at the bottom of the road TBH.

I just rinse off the wet mud after every hike and make sure they dry ok. I tend to find that refreshing the DWR coating on footwear is less important than on jackets, pants and shirts, and that the Goretex membrane itself usually fails long before it would do on clothing anyhow.
