I need a few classic pub names for a quiz I’m writing. Can be tradtional, well known individual pubs, or from tv and literature. I’ve got a few but need some more so looking for some inspiration. Obscure ones are fun but less useful for this but feel free to chuck them in if it keeps the thread going.
The Castle
The Globe
Red Lion
The Old Red Lion
Drovers Arms
Travellers Rest
White Lion
Kings Head
Queens Head
Elephant and Castle
Fox and Hounds
The (Old) Coach House
The Slaughtered Lamb ((American werewolf in London)
The leaky cauldron (Harry potter)
The drunken clam (family guy)
The four feathers (Brighton rock)
Samoan Joes (lockstock)
The Winchester (Shaun of the dead)
The Tabard (Canterbury Tales)
The Six Jolly Porters (Our Mutual Friend)
Davy Byrne’s (Ulysses)
The (broken/mended) Drum (Discworld)
The Crow and Crown (Withnail & I)
The Three Broomstocks (Harry Potter)
Not classic names but some of my favourites are the ones which come from the super-local industries. On Scotswood road there were once The Crooked Billet, The Forge Hammer and The Blast Furnace ( amongst many others). There must be loads of examples of that from around the country.
