fire roads… yes boring i know, but is there a well surfaced fire road going right over claife heights? I know (well i think i remember) you can get up to the top from Basecamp on a good fire road, but can you get down to Sawrey on the other side on one too?

I'm making up some routes for night time training on the cross bike that involve some non rocky forest stuff as a break from the tarmac. I know i can ride down past the 3 tarns to sawrey just wondered if there was a fire road track down as well in case i dont fancy the bumpier route at night!

obviously i could just go out there and explore but i'm knackered today after yesterdays riding 🙂

there is a fire road track heading east near the 2nd tarn which meets another leading to the bridleway up from the phone box in Far Sawrey. I've never actually ridden it, but it's visible on Google sattelite pics

You can get from whichever Sawrey Benjamin Bunny lived at to National Trust Base Camp on fire road.
