  • Child friendly cycling club in Sheffield?

I have been considering joining a club for a while for various reasons, to get out on my bike more, push myself harder, ride different routes and socialise a bit more.

I have also been considering getting my two youngest road bikes (8&10), but I feel they would get more out of them if they were in a club too.

Does anyone of or preferably recommend clubs that would fit the bill in sheffield?

CTC might be worth a try. There’s also Pedal Pushers (don’t know if they are still going) who may be able to put you in touch with other groups

Think these guys are the renamed pedal pushers

Although not road biking there is the cycle speedway club at norton. They had demos at cliffhanger recently. Looked like fun and good for kids.

I couldnt seem to get them interested in that, they want to ride road bikes on the road and love battling up big hills and getting muddy on mountain bikes. The going round and round didn’t appeal – unless it was a velodrome, they like that idea for some reason.

Cool – love the sound of the Cleethorpes run, are there many women in the club do you know?

Sheffrec does seem to be the only one that seems to do kids stuff – are they a nice bunch?

Shef Rec have a really good young riders section and its quite possibly free to join. They also hold sessions on the closed road circuit at forge valley school as well as havig good links with the North Mids youth league
Norton Wheelers have quite a few young riders too
Sheffield Stars are the speedway club and they run sessions at the track at Graves Tennis centre and Cookson Park. They are an awesome Go-Ride Club that do other types of cycling and have regular trips to the velodrome too.
There is hopefully going to be a go-ride club linked to the track at Parkwood at some point.

Might stick this info up on our website with better detail soon

Sheffield Stars Cycle Speedway do a great Go-Ride skills development session before taking to the track, pretty good for developing younger riders confidence. You can now use the Forge Valley school closed road circuit up Loxley way at ‘public sessions’ email forgevalleycommunityteam@gmail.com or give them a bell 01142 348805 day 01142 294040 eve
