As stated in the post, I have chicken pox and at the ripe old age of 37 it's not nice at all. To help me through this I am off out to buy a PS3 with COD. It should help me waste a few hours.

My main question surrounds blue ray, is it good or is it a gimick? I have Sky HD at home and to be honest am not blown away by it unlike some folks who I work with, I have a 50 inch tv so I can apprecite what HD delivers but I don't go wow when watching in HD, it's good but not that good, will blue ray deliver the same quality as HD?

All comments welcome, also do blue ray players play normal Dvd's?

Your PS3 will upscale normal DVD's too. I love my Blu Ray player and the quality of the sound and picture. I generally tend to buy Blu Ray discs before normal DVD's now. I see there is a massive improvement and difference between Sky and Sky HD, so you may not agree with me about Blu Ray!

    is your TV 1080P ?
if so, then blu-ray will look exceptional.
sky HD is only output in 1080i, AFAIK

Yes they play normal DVDs as to whether Blu-Ray is worth it then I guess it's down to the individual. I can't say I was blown away when I watched a Blu-Ray film for the first time but the quality is certainly good. I'm not blown away watching HD TV either but at the same time I find some programs in normal def look pretty ropey these days. To me HD is just like wearing a pair of glasses if you're eyes are a little off, everything's just a little clearer but it doesn't add much per se.

forgot to say – bluray isn't just about the picture – it's also about the soundtrack.
    Dolby True HD [7.1]
    DTS Master HD [7.1]

if you're lucky enough to have the processing / speakers 😀

    etc.

    it's AWESOME !

I don't think you can go too far wrong for how much PS3's are selling for now. £250 should get you a bundle with COW MW2, which will keep you occupied for (too) many hours.

I don't find normal films in Blue Ray that impressive (like Casino Royal etc). But animated stuff looks amazing – such as the Simpsons Movie, Wall-E etc. Prices on BR's have dropped a bit now, making them competitive with DVD's in most cases.
