  • Cheapish 142×12 trail 29er hardtail frames??

Their was a thread similar to this about a year ago but the op wasn’t too worried about 142×12 whereas for me its a must. So does anyone have any suggestions of this type of frame that’s really available. What I want is a new 2016 honzo but I can’t find frame only, plus it’s too expensive really. Any help please??

I’ve seen a few 29er Transition TransAM for about 400 new. was considering swapping my Honzo for one but comparing them side by side there is too little difference to be worth while

Not sure if 2016 Dartmoor Primal is 142.

I was told the Np Scout is 142, & as the current one is, I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t

Cool thanks guys, just need to be a little patient, lots of the new crop of plus bikes might work but they are 148×12 which I love the idea of but don’t have the cash for.

Secondhand Stache frame/bike might be a good option.

Zealous Division has 142×12 dropout option.

Anyone got the TransAM? I like the idea of the 415mm chainstays but what it’s like in the real world?

Another vote for Zealous Division. Great fun to ride.

Bikescene have some 29″ 2015 Orange Clockwork frames for £250. They might be 142mm as my 2014 5 is.

Thepodge. Where did you find the transam for £400 by the way, sounds far cheaper than I’ve found.

Its a shop advertising through Pinkbike, I’d imagine you could order direct from the shop

the clockwork orange is QR, at least mine is…
you dont need bolt through on a hardtail, just adds weight with no real stiffness benefit (according to Cy from cotic) and most good wheels are easily adapted now…

btw my XL clockwork frame is for sale over there –> 😉

That’s Pigyn of this parish I believe. Transam would be my suggestion too, and at that price, they’re great value.

I’ve always wanted a Transam but my honzo is almost exactly the same so its difficult to justify the change. By the looks of it the only difference between 2015 & 2016 is paint colour so as long as you don’t mind that, you’re saving almost 200 quid

The benefits of bolt through outweigh stiffness IMO. The fact that the wheel goes in straight and stays straight is great. QR wheels always had to be ‘aligned’ in the dropouts and have on occasions had them pull out of alignment when stomping on the pedals if the QR wasn’t tight.

Yep that’s us. We only have Medium left @ £399

Pre order price on the 2016 ones is £475 for £100 deposits paid before September 15th.

You are right that most wheels are backwards compatible… Just not mine. Anyway I can’t be bothered with changing the end of my hubs all the time + the advantages stated above. Shame I missed the transams

If you really fancy a transam I’d try ringing round a few shops, someone might be doing a similar deal

    Sobre Upgrade? http://www.sobre-bikes.com/cadre-upgrade.html

The dropouts look a bit like the ones pvd criticized though, so they may need a modification ( http://www.peterverdone.com/?p=7794 ).

Thanks for the nudge to sobre bikes, never heard of them before. A quick Google gave me zero reviews, have you had any experience with them? The dropout problem didn’t seem like a big issue to mod if necessary

No experience, found them last winter when I was looking for a HT; ended up with a Solaris :).
