    thanks, CRC and Merlin are the cheapest I can find:
    – 32T chainring = £94
    – chain = £21

    yep, M970 came out in 2008 I think

    I think the chainrings are a strange offset too so I don't think you can use other manufacturers' rings – unless anyone knows of any?

    M970 came out in late 2006/early 2007.

    I heard Lex's near Penistone was cheap but I've not been looking so you'd need to check it out yourself. http://www.lexs.co.uk/

    Yeah, it was that long ago. XTR generally on a four year cycle, so expect M980 to be out for the 2011 season.

    TA chinook fit the 970 cranks, only the 22t ring has an offset.

    I fitted a normal granny using some spacers and is fine; 44t chainrings are fine too though I had to take a fraction off the inside of the arms on mine using a dremmel.
