We have to buy a family car quickly.

Any recommendations for a family with 3 young kids.

Something cheap & reliable. Not bothered about posh brands.

    Thanks,

How cheap is cheap. If you want useful advice you’re going to have to give more specifics.

What sort of size at least? Age?

Passat or Mondeo. I suspect the Passat will hold it’s money better.

Honda Jazz 1.4ES is a great car. Hold’s it’s value superbly.

Vauxhall Zafira, much cheapness for a big, reliable family lump.

More information: We have been all squeezing into an A140 for the past 9 years so anything bigger than that is going to be a bonus. We want more room but the wife would freak out at thethought of driving a Galaxy size car.

As a family we only drive about 8000 or less a year.

We are currently looking at the 7 seat KIA Carens but not being a ‘car person’ I’d be interested Omani alternaives.

    Honda FRV?

And tell the wife to WTFU. Driving big cars is a piece of p*ss once you get used to it.

Kia/hyundai – shockingly bad cars, but the mechanicals will outlive just about anything, and are quite cheep to fix.

Horrible, horrible, horible cars though, both to drive and to look at.

If under £4k – a Focus every time.

If on a really tight budget (sub £1k) – something Jap or German like an old Golf or Civic.

Passat 1.9TDI estate R reg onwards from Autotrader? Skoda Ocatavia estate diesel (avoid the ex-taxis though – gonna be high mileage)?

Used to be. Not any more. Most of what they make is on-a-par with the competition, and in any areas, better.

Don’t bother please, the less oversized cars we have on the road the better. Thanks 😀

Doesn’t get much cheaper than the Chevrolet Cruze. Chevy sale on at the moment, from £9995 otr with 5 years/100000 mile warranty, 5 years servicing 😉

Another vote for the Multipla…6 seats but no longer than a normal hatchback.

Or if you want to stay small, we just bought a Ford Fusion, basically a Fiesta estate. 53 reg Fusion 2 with 50k, well equipped, cost us £2300. Cheaper than the Fiesta as its not as popular. Roomy in the back and a decent boot.

Hang on. No one has said Berlingo. It’ll be a slight culture shock for a short while. Then you’ll love the utilitarianism of it.

That’d be my choice if I was in your situation.
