    I am embarking on the coast too coast in a couple of weeks and will be riding my Mega AM. It’s currently weighing 32lbs and wearing 2.5 maxxis minnions front and rear and figured that tyres would be the obvious place to drop a little weight and decrease rolling resistance .

    Have thought about 2.25 ardents or some on one smorgasbords, does anyone have any opinions on my choices or can you suggest anything else?
    They would only be used for multi day trips like this so out and out performane is going to take second place to weight and resistance.

    Cheers

    Sounds like you need a high volume, low tread tyre – assuming you won’t be encountering much mud?

    The Smorgasbord isn’t much lighter or faster rolling than a Minion TBH, the Ardent is a bit – but isn’t very cheap in the light version.

    (I’m just clearing out a batch of Weirwolf LT 2.55s and a Small Block 8 2.35, in case you’re interested in some cheap secondhand rubber? Fantastic summer tyres!)

    Which coast to coast route?

    St.Bees-Robin Hoods Bay through lakes,dales and moors is quite different to Whitehaven to Sunderland/Newcastle MTBing vs. back roads and surfaced railway tracks

    You might not need any tread at all, or just a dry condition XC race tyre

    Specialised tyres are a good combination of cheap, relatively light and good performance. Maybe something like 2.3 captains

    @james
    Its st bees to robin hoods bay so i’m assuming i’ll need some decent tread. Theres a group of 14 of us doing it, all abilities from new riders to vets. Bit of a topic shift but what can i expect on this particular route as i havn’t even studied the mapping yet.
