    Hi,
I’ve had a quick search and was surprised not to find any threads about the latest good deal on a cheap torch for use as bike light so can someone give me a suggestion?

One of my commuting lights is about to break (plastic case cracking) so I’m looking at a replacement. I commute in heavy traffic in central London so want a good and bright light to try and stand out/be seen. If it’s good for use as a helmet light when off road too that is a bonus. After something with okay durability – I use the lights everyday and don’t want to be back here in 6 months with the same question – so I guess some decent seals, alu body and hopefully reasonably built internals. I’ve got plenty of high capacity NiMh AAA (0.9Amphour) and AA (2.3 Amphour) batteries and want to stick with these if possible rather than a specific battery and new charger. My commute is about 40 minutes so need at least that as run time…or about an hour for a bit spare, but I don’t mind charging batteries every night.

the lenser P7 is an obvious choice, 37 quid on amazon

but wondered if there are any better lights worht a go.

This uniquefire looks good, claimed 350 lumens!! Can it really do that from one 1.2V AA NiMH battery? If so then spec says 1.2Amp regulated current, so I could expect 2.3/1.2 =1.9 hours..less an allowance for getting very dim i should still get over an hour of useable brightness, yes? or no?

Or maybe a similar but 3AAA powered light, 230 lumens…seems more beleivable perhaps but sucking 800mAmps I guess I’d just about get home each evening before the light was getting pathetically dim but no more?

There are loads of others around too, so can anybody give me some advice please?
    many thanks,
    Neil
