I run a spoon on my road/cx/commuter bike so I don't see why not.

Nah, it would be awful.
For road cycling you need the lightest saddle you can get, otherwise your bike will look awful and you'll be carrying around at least 100g more than you need to.
I use a Selle Italia SLR 135, its comfy.
For road riding, you dont need a big squishy saddle, a solid one thats a good shape is ideal.

In terms of comfort, I would love to use one, but I haven't thus far because I'm worried about the location of the stitching on the spoon and its potential for rubbing through the lycra on my delicate inner thighs....

wallop the newer spoons are softer in terms of stitching and fabric..
but know what you mean that stitching at the edge rubbed a hole in a cheek when I did Lejog..
Fizik Aliante is same shape, fraction narrower at the edges (curves down rather than out a the spoon does) and smooth - I have swapped to these now

Really? 100g? Really? Oh come on, you'd save more weight by going to the loo or having your hair cut. I'm a big advocate of light weight, within reason, but I'd defy anyone to truthfully notice a gain or loss of 100g.

you are going to be sat on it in a totally different position than on a road bike. that is uness you set your road bike up with an upright nodder position and only use the tops.
try it but don't be surprised if it's really uncomfortable (like the sdg bel-air i used as a stop gap before getting a toupe.Posted 3 months ago # -
Another nod for the Fizik Arione by the way, currently have one on my road bike.
I have spoons on my mtb and fixed/trainer and get on well with all 3.
Not saying you'll be the same though...

My commuter has a Spoon on it, because it's comfy. Couldn't be more suited really.

I've had a spoon on my mountain bike for years and I find it really comfy. I tried it on my road bike for a couple of months and weirdly I didn't like it (mainly due to numb nether regions). I suspect its just the different angle I am sat at on the road bike.
Nothing wrong with it if it works for you, just didn't seem to suit me.

I know what others are saying about body position relative to saddle ,had a Selle itallia Octavian on my Mtb ,was never really comfy so changed it ,however when building up a single speed Roadbike dropped this on as a stopgap but ended up leaving it on as on this it was pretty comfortable.
For £20 or thereabouts it's worth giving it ago.

Had a spoon on my Singular Pergerine and loved it, tried one on a "proper" road bike and found it a tad too wide, so replaced it with e Knife and its ace.
But that's me.
