Depends 100% on what you are eating it with. (If you are trying to be authentic anyway).

Started buying chapatti flour a year or so ago. I think we’ve got through maybe a few bags as they take up half the cupboard. 🙂 They’re a doddle to make and way nicer than bought ones. I’ve made Parathas too, but they’re bloody oily! Not keen on Naans – a bit too much to them. If we’re having a curry at home, I’ll normally do less rice and a few chapattis and home made bhajis (also a doddle). Much nicer than a big plate of curry and too much rice.

I’ve been on the paratha for a while as it leaves more room for curry

Naan all the way. And as hot and greasy as possible please! Can’t have ‘healthy’ sneaking in through the back door! And whilst the fancy naans are attractive, I like than plain, to offset the delicious spicy flavour feast that the rest of the meal should be…

Chapattis are easy to make so I do them for home cooking. At a restaurant, nothing can beat a fresh naan. Is there an easy recipe for good home-made naan?

Right, this is how it goes from a Anglo Indian/west indian who has lived in India for a few years.
Paratha, plain or stuffed (but fresh off the pan) with thick yogurt and chutney, chai – Breakfast
Tandoor butter Roti – just one as rice is the star for this meal – Lunch, followed by siesta.
Chapatti – 4 to 6 plain served with one or two curry consisting of only two complimentary veg each. Dinner
Naan – Friday night down the local tandoori.

I am firing up the tava tomorrow, I’m bloody starving!

Roti, but proper thick ones. I mentored a guy from Northern Pakistan, a Pathaan, and we were invited round for a meal. I already ate curries with chapattis, but they did roti in a tandoori which are like perfect.

I make chapattis on a tawa, dead simple. Tonight we had methi thepla, a gujerati paratha as a light meal with pickles and chutney

To the tune of Que sera, sera:

“Will it be puri, chapatti or nan? We’ll have to wait and see.

    Hope it’s popaddum, we ho-ope it’s popaddum….”

Actually Indian food is passé now, even the Indians and Pakistanis are moving out of Rusholme’s Curry Mile and getting into the courier business. They are being replaced by Syrians and Iraqis with delicious healthy mediterranean food, which couldn’t come too soon because until recently Manchester had NO decent Levantine restaurants, just the ropey old Cedar Tree in Thomas Street and Al Addin in Wilmslow, both an embarrassment to Middle-Eastern hospitality.
