Have to say I would love to go and ski somewhere like that – proper adventure.

I read that this morning. 🙂

Immediately wondered whether there'd be scope for some riding in the spring or autumn. It's fascinating. We think of Afghanistan as a loony-ridden hell-hole which basically specialises in blowing up army landrovers and putting women in sacks, and some bloke has a nice quiet bit of it which might be a ski resort. All power to them.

Could probably ski in Afganistan for about three months on the amount of money a week's lift pass in Chamonix costs. Getting a round of drinks in probably wouldn't make you break out into a cold sweat there either. Oh, and far less poseurs.

So about 3-0 to Afganistan at the moment.

Well you could just go to Kashmir. Similar sort of area but with less, although not zero, risk of being killed by terrorists and bit more developed.

I knew there had to be a good reason for us invading their country

Looks interesting but dodgy on several levels !

    Loved this bit

"The Sibher Pass route, which takes travellers through some unforgettable landscapes, is currently being flattened and widened by hundreds of workers, most of whom were last week inexplicably wearing fluorescent orange Royal Mail jackets. "

There are plenty of flights to Kabul from London, but a return costs about £2,500 and the minimum flight time is 16.5 hours.

I've rather shelved this for another year…
