So, my new bike (29’er XC FS) is currently built up with the XT M8000 single ring crank with M8000 32t ring off my HT as I’m waiting on the correct one to turn up for the new build.

The new crank is a XT M8000 36/26 boost to suit the boosted frame.

The bike was built up with the outer in place for the front mech (internal routing) and I’ve left that in place while I ran the single ring crankset.

The sifters are iSpec II so dead easy to put back on, and the cassette is 11-40; I’ve been running 32t up front and 11-42t out back on my HT and it’s bang on with hardly any time in the 42 unless on the steepest climb or at the end of a big day.

With the 40t I found that I spent a little more time on it than I thought healthy for a alloy ring, but never struggled on climbs on the two marathons down in Built Wells.

So, shall I bang the double on as I’m getting it anyway and get used to having a double again – probably extends chain and cassette wear?
