have just switched from an XT to XTR chainset. I am currently running 2×10. The front 2 rings were fine on the xt chainset but since swapping them to the xtr the chain cannot sit on the granny ring because it sits too close to the middle ring. The rings have been put on the right way round. Anybody had any issues like this???

Some XTR need spacers for the granny ring I think?

I assume your running a ten speed front mech and the XTR chainset is a ten speed?

I had issues before trying when I mistakenly fitted a ten speed from with a 9 speen chainset.

If compatability aint your problem revisit the set up of your front mech.

The front mech is fine. The gap between the 2 rings is really really narrow. I think it may have originally had 9 speed rings however I’m pretty sure my current xt used to run nine speed before I fitted my tens

Aye, some XTR cranks have nonstandard offset- M970 certainly does, you need to add a small spacer/washer between the granny ring and the cranks.

As above, some of the xtr’s needed special rings, that had a different offset

My 970 crank did not look right with after market rings

Shimano do love things to be just right lol
But as I use old x0 grip- shift it made no real difference

Yep, 2mm spacers required on the granny ring.
