Hopefully not as dumb as it sounds, maybe I just havent noticed before.

I’ve fitted new Shimano small and middle chain rings to XT cranks so that the lettering showing the number of teeth faces in on both, but when I do that the “direction” of the slight shark’s teeth shape seems to be different on the middle to small ring?

    Is that normal?

Also, if running a bash instead of the big ring, is there any need to link up the mark on the middle ring with the crank arm?

    cheers

Forget the second bit, just as quick to rotate and refit, even with the bash.

Lettering usually faces out, I think?

Lettering faces inboard on granny and middle rings, outboard for the big ring on a triple.

Yep, that’s what I’ve done – lettering in towards BB, weird that the teeth seem to be pointing in different directions that way.

But, the recess for the bolt on the inner ring is also facing the BB, so must be right
