Hi guys, this may sound like a noob question but i am having some serious problems with my outer chain ring. I am looking to remove the third and largest chain ring and the bolts seem to have hex key style holes :L however when i try and turn the bolts with a hex key ( have tried all my sizes) the thing seems to not grip at all. any suggestions?

Do you have the tool to hold the other half of the chainring bolt in place?

Any idea what chainset it is? Some (generally cheaper) chainsets have riveted rings – might look like allen key holes, but not removable. It’s a new chainset needed if you want to change the rings in that case.

    (E.g. this one’s riveted but looks a bit bolted: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=41449 )

What is the crankset? Could it be a cheap one with the rings are basically riveted on?
