Quite a steep set of stairs with a corner on them. As to be expected the cats use the carpet for extra traction when fighting.

As a minor detail, of no interest to the cats of course, the carpet is getting trashed.

Are some carpets more resistant to claws than others? or would i be best off taking the stairs down to wood and painting them or just putting carpet down the centre of the treads rather than full width. They are victorian and i guess they would never have been fully carpeted in the beginning.

Coir natural flooring. Tough as, my cat has been using it for extra traction for nearly ten years and its not showing any wear.
