We got our new cat on Sunday from the RSPCA

She has to stay in for 1 month our only option is shutting the only door down stairs and locking her in the living room when we go out as downstairs is open planned this means she has no access to litter tray/roam around the house etc.

Any failsafe ideas ? (first one to say build a porch wins 10p)

How long are you planning to abandon her?
Is this while you all goto work, or just while your ‘out’ (shopping/pub/etc)?
Can’t see the issue with a covered litter tray in the front room for short(ish) periods, might seem creul but one month isn’t long in the scheme of things & you have done her the favour of becoming her human slaves.

let her bolt out of the front door into the path of a car which then screeches to a halt with its front tyre just in front of kitties face, so kitty is staring up at it.

That will scare the hell out of the cat and she won’t venture out the front again.

Our new kitty is just not at all interested when a door opens :

Tin foil around the front door. Cats hate walking on tin foil, allegedly.

We have the same problem ,so we put a strawberry net across the door to catch them,they soon got tired of being tangled and gave up.

cats can also jump surprisingly well, can’t see how tin foil is going to stop them going where they like… happy to be proved wrong.

You need to pee on the floor by your door. Think this works. Do report back.

Is the litter tray bolted to the floor in some fashion?

IME, the biggest issue with kittens and doors isn’t them bolting for it, it’s you forgetting and swinging the door open.

Why does she have to stay in for 1 month?

If there’s a corridor leading to the door, put one of those door fly screens across as a temporary porch. If no corridor, a 90deg shower pole will make one for cheapness and use two screens.

If the cat keeps making a bolt for the door then stop taking her to blacksmithing lessons 🙂

paint a picture of outside on the inside of the door and let her take a run up, that’ll soon put her off trying

Put down the kitty’s food just before you leave so it’ll be busy eating while you make your escape.

Pick her up and hold her collar tight, open the door and chuck her back in as you close the door behind her 🙂

The last thing I do before I leave for work is put his food down. He always seems to favour food over freedom.

The Mrs will be at work 2 half days a week,(4hrs) good idea re covered litter tray 😀
