Pug 306 GTI6.
Fast, subtle and fun. Those poor BMW's didn't have a clue what it was.

Renault 6 with an 850cc engine - surprising what you could make it do, but most fun when the suspension had gone and it just bounced all the time

Polo g40 - very similar to this one - was a brilliant 'Q' car

Coolest car I've ever owned

Bregante - I think that's possibly the nicest car in this thread, simply a beauty.

meandmytruck by kevin and stephanie, on FlickrAlong with various minis and a TI Sunbeam back in the 80's. Now a Volvo estate driver!

309gti 1.9 - unlike the 205 it actually kept all four wheels on the ground when cornering (hard)
405Mi16 - looked like a mini-cab, went like stink
and quite attached to my current 535i

The car I sort of regret selling was my MR2, pretty sad when that was driven away by it's new owner. It was a Jap import turbo version with a custom interior. A great car to drive and much quicker than the UK version.

Replaced with a Westfield, which was great fun (and very glad I have had chance to own) but it had to go once kids arrived.

Luckily the replacement 'family' car was something I had always wanted to own.

For some reason the cars I have now have seem to be proper family motors.

There do not appear to be many people who have ever owned a rear wheel drive car..you dont know what your missing!
My very first car was a Hillman Imp Husky; http://www.imps4ever.info/family/husky.html
Now that little engine could rev
Parted company with it when it had 95k on the clock and it was still going strong for another 3yrs that I know off
Next best was a `68 Cooper until junior came along and I bought an Allegro with a knackered gearbox which I fixed and the car did 5yrs including being used for club road rallys!!!
There followed various VWs for 13 yrs, the best being a 1.8 Jetta we had for 7yrs
I used to maintain a few race & rally cars inc 1275 Cooper S with the full monty ie Webber carb, lightened/balanced everything, straightcut drop gears etc. Mk1 Mexico x 2, Mk2 GP1(ex Ellsmore)RS2000, race Imp amd GT6

Monty - getting one of those (A6 SLine SE) at the end of the month - looking forward to that

believe it or not, it was great - I think that they had spent all their time on driver ergonomics because everything was in perfectly the right place and it was supremely comfortable to drive.could get loads in the back as well and 5 adults perfectly comfortable

@ MF, mines a 2.7 quattro s line, its a cracker, enjoy yours.

Nice monty - no way could I stretch to that and the offer I found was simply impossible to resist - just one of the last stock vehicles around now the new one is out.

Right....the best car I've ever owned is the one I currently drive....BUT.....it's also the most boring and in some ways most embarrassing to be seen in....
A white Mondeo 2.0 Ghia, 2005. Bought in a hurry on ebay after my last Saab blew up & cost me just over £3k when it was three years old!!!! My kids call it Dad's taxi and I must admit I have been flagged down when driving past pubs at chucking out time...
I have put new tyres on it, serviced it and that's it - it is the most reliable car I have ever owned and as a result it will be living with us for a long time to come - every time I think of selling it I end up catching myself and just saying no....!

@MF, push them for the three year unlimited warranty, I got mine and needed it when the CPU went belly up in year three.
Its a cracking car though.

Peugeot 205 GTi....awesome car, wish i still had it.
Had some of the other popular 80s/90s hot hatches too; Mk2 Golf GTI, Ford XR2....but none of them were as good to drive as a Pug GTi....owned both the 1.6 and 1.9 models at various times.

SAAB 900 3 door turbo in black
Posted 8 months ago # -
4XSaab 900 T16 S's - not all at the same time!
They were what got me through the 90s - rorty, so well designed, built and engineered - practical too (I once slept stretched out with rear seats down in one of mine - and I am/was 6'1")So sad about Saab's demise into mediocrity and unreliability under the dreaded GM...........and now probably heading for extinct status.
I've still got one though!

Replaced with a Westfield, which was great fun (and very glad I have had chance to own) but it had to go once kids arrived.
What was the Westfield like to own? Any luggage space at all?
Thinking about a new "toy" car in the not too distant future.Posted 8 months ago #
