Both £200 at Halfords until Monday with quidco cashback and discounts.

For a 14 mile commute on road and old railway (9 miles road/5 miles old railway) which would be most suitable?

They would be kitted out with a rack and panniers also and mudguards before they are recommended.

You decide – reasons please. No other choices thanks – its between these two!!

1st one looks more of a ‘racey’ riding position.

    2nd one looks more upright.

for 14 miles each way I would prefer the first I think.

Agree that Gryphon is more racey – basically like a road bike with straight bars. Considering you’ve to go on old rail track then I would have thought that the Subway was better – wider tyres / heavier wheels??

yeah 1st one is larger road type wheels

    2nd is 26″ mtb wheels.

I’d still probably plump for the 1st one with some CX tyres or something.

gryphon for the benefit of 700c series wheels, faster and smoother than 26″. Option to add CX tyres if commute is muddy, stock ones look slick. No weight quoted I could see, bit I didn’t look very hard, but 7005 alu might be lighter than ‘Lightweight Alu’ as the subway is crafted from. Subway is about 12.5kg, I’d ride them both and see which you like. Then get the Gryphon anyway…
