Was doing some intervals on the turbo trainer tonight. For the power output I wanted I was finding that my heart rate was higher than it should have been. After a couple of reps I shifted the bike out onto the patio and completed the session. About 7 degrees cooler outside than inside and found that my heart rate for the same power output was more than 10 bpm lower than when inside (and I was also a lot less sweaty).
Guessing this is cardiac drift in action?
Would there have been any training benefit to staying indoors and MingTFU? I'm guessing it's more beneficial if you can keep your heart rate and power where you want it rather than ploughing on with the power and a too high HR, or backing off on the power to lower the HR. Unless you want to train for warmer climes I suppose.
