for £400 includign a headset and with bars and grips thrown in I can’t see why you wouldn’t (I just have 🙂 )- I think the ‘shiney’ paint job does have a slimming effect on it a bit.
They are a brilliant ride, I couldn’t beleive the improvement over the 853 inbred I had before. Most components were swithced over so it was a true comparison. Would agree that they are better with a 140mm fork , i’ve recently fitted rev u-turns.
Stiffer? Lighter? More comfortable? (And if anyone says “more planted”…. )
I’m rubbish at describing the feel of a bike, but I would say stiffer, without being harsh, particularly on rocky stuff it goes were you point it – less pinging about. Didn’t really notice the weight as much as I thought I would TBH, lost about 1.5lbs compared to the pevious 853 build
Looks like they were only on sale for a few months at £500
It looks like they still are…. But if you read the ‘frame only’ page it seems the £500 one is painted and has posh decals on it, rather then the bare carbon of the £400 one. Personally, I prefer the bare carbon.
Not really, theres probably quite a steep set of supply/demand curves for the bike industry. i.e. people will pay more for soething because you are chargeing more (thus artificialy making it niche). So you can sell a product at a high price and sell a few, or at rock bottom and sell loads and still come out in about the same position, take Stork and On-One, both small manufacturers, but hugely different price tags.
much much better in the flesh. a mate bought a white one, wondered if he had lost his marbles until he turned up with it ready for a build up. i changed my mind then. simons plastic bike by keith280764, on Flickr
Gotta say I love mine, fox 32 rl,XT brakes, crossrides with 2.4 big betty and racing ralph, on-one twelfty post, slx crank/xt mech and a set of big ass flat bars on a 70mm stem. Mega at climbing and descents so much more involving than my Zesty. Finish is crap on mine but that’s probs my fault as I pressured the hell out of of them to get me it quickly, they actually went to the paint shop to pick it up for me specially and I don’t think the lacquer had time to harden properly. Don’t care though, as many have said on here it ain’t much to look at but to ride………..:)
