Just washed our car and was wondering what the STW collective mind's tips were on getting dead flies off the front of the car?

Elbow grease? Or is there a specific product which I am yet to discover?

I can guarantee that these will get the flies off but can't guarantee that they won't scratch the surface. 😀

Prevention is best, best tip I learnt was to wax your car. The flies just don't stick or when they do they're much easier to clean off.

If you wet the fly splattered parts first, and keep them wet, the bodies go a bit soggy and you can get them off more easily. Old credit/store cards good for gentle scraping too.

TFR removes any wax you have etc. complete overkill for getting flies off.

You can get bug and tar remover – it's just a solvent. You can also get sponges with a bug removing bit on – a kind of coarse plastic mesh. Work well.

On my motorbike I used to do the following:

    1. Get a towel.

    2. Soak in warm soapy (car shampoo/fairy liquid etc) water

    3. Lay towel over fly encrusted area.

    4. Have a cup of tea and wait for at least 30 or so mins.

    5. Wipe off flies with a sponge.

    6. Get more flies on car.

    7. Go to step 1.

Get them nice and wet like said above, or as silly as it may sound wash your car as soon after you have been on a longish drive in the rain with just the normal stuff you wash the car with

a lot of people i know keep banging on about baby wipes, they do seem to do the trick and you can keep them in the car

Tar and bug remover is good, but i found that was then hard to clean off the bodywork!
As mentioned above, you can get a sponge with a fly remover bit on one side. Not sure if it does your paintjob any good.
