  • Car tyre repairs. Tyre dealer trying it on?

Nail through threaded area of tyre about 1.5cm in from external edge of tread.

Local fast fit type place said it could not be repaired as on shoulder of tyre. Offered to sell me 2 x new tyres as the puncture is in one if my winter tyres. Price is significantly more than I can get same tyres elsewhere for. 225/55 x 19.

So….do I find my local back street tyre dealer and try them to repair?

Still had my summer tyres in the garage so they were fitted by my local Costco thus evening. Great bunch of lads who really helped tonight.

This will tell you if its in a repairable area or not.

Repairable area is either the central 90% of the tread, or less if the repair would overlap past the tread reinforcing/on to the sidewall.

And given a standard plug/patch is around 40mm diameter, 1.5cm from the edge on the tread means you’re extremely likely going to overlap where it shouldn’t on the inside.
