Our Seat Alhambra developed a problem just out of warranty. Basically there was a short somewhere in the wiring which caused a lot of warning lights to come on. We took it to the local Seat dealer who replaced several relays & informed us the problem was sorted. This was on the 17th of Feb.

Cut to mid April & exactly the same thing happened again. I took the vehicle back to them to have the problem rectified again & pointed out that the air-con needed fixing too.

They called back a week later to say the problem was the air-con pressure switch which had leaked out all the gas & caused the short in the process.

How do we stand legally having to pay for the same repair twice ?

I’m not looking for an “out” or wriggle space when it comes to paying for this. Simply, can they ask for payment for the same problem twice, when the on the first occasion they mis-diagnosed the problem.

    Thanks in advance. Dave.

unfortunately when you work in the trade it is not always easy to be certain of the cause of all problems.
I doubt you can get them to pay for it as they fixed the symptoms first time but not the cause- I dont know anything about air con to know if this is a stupid error or just bad luck
    Sorry.

Find it hard to see how an air con leak can cause such a problem, could be wrong though. So dont be suprised if it all blows again becuase of the real reason it happened….

Maybe try a specialist auto electrician if you still have issues, rather then a dealer that employs trained monkeys and charges a fortune for it!

Surely their repairs are guaranteed for 3 months? Whatever they did, didn’t work – I’d at least query it.

Not to pee on your bonfire squire but that platform had a fundemental design issue with its aircon system – were the repairs under warranty? If so they should be still covered under the warranty. Otherwise you will have to accept you will pay for on going aircon costs or wind the windows down when it gets above 15 degrees.

mundiesmiester is correct Alhambras/Galaxy/Sharans, all have real bad air conditioning problems, my Bro in law bought one, he came to me for advice I told him if he must have one at least get a diesel and don’t bother trying to find one with working air con as it will only fail in short order anyway! What does he do?

Goes out and buys a 2.3 petrol with air con that he paid over the odds for and the air con lasted two weeks. He then found out that it was so uneconomical that he bought a little diesel clio to run around in, the Galaxy gets used about twice a year!

Not that I can talk as I’ve just had to buy a new air con condenser for my Kia Sedona, but at least I know there is a problem, a stone went through it!

OK, quick update on this. The dealer agreed to waive half of the labour charges for the 2nd repair. All for the price of asking. I’d use them again.
