So I recently bought a turd of a car which I had hoped would be trouble free until xmas.

When I press the accelerator pedal any more than a third there is this acrid smell. Any ideas? The handbrake is disengaged! 😉

The car in question is a ford ka, so I’m not expecting anything fast but I’d like it to be useable.

I hired a Ka once, it stank of fumes so I returned it. Apparently, the crank-case ventilation hose perishes and cracks really easily, letting oily stuff drip onto the exhaust manifold where it gets hot and stinks the car out.

    Maybe worth checking?

I’ll have a look but I know very little about cars!

Is it a drive by wire and the rheostat under the accelerator pedal is burnt, shorting, failing ?

It’s more akin to a flintstone car!

Slipping clutch?-do the engine revs rise without any increase in speed?
    Can smell like burning insulation.

Yeah the revs rise, but it’s a 1.3 ka so revs a lot anyway
