Right – scenario is as follows:

Current car is a 2005 V70 2.4 diesel with 130k on the clock
    tax is 360 a year
    insurance is 450 a year
i do about 12k per year
42mpg general but better on mway run
all toys – heated seats/leather etc/vgc inside and out

The car has the following “issues”:
    Needs new ignition barrel
    Hand brake is shite
Intermittent fault code showing pressure sensor needs replacing in ABS unit
    needs 4 tyres

    Good points:
tow bar and tow bar rack
    roof bars and rack
    HUGE boot
    Comfy on long journeys
    solid/sound/safe

Do i get the bits done and hope that the outlay lasts the 2 years that i have earmarked to change car OR try to find a PCP for 12k miles on a smaller car and swap with my wife for her new I20?

    AAAAAAAAAAAGh so confused!

How much are the repairs (aside from the tyres, they’re a consumable)? Are there any other issues, or likely to be any you don’t know about? E.g brakes, suspension, exhaust?

How much is the car worth?

If the price of repair is significantly more than the value of the car, i’d Be looking at a new one

I reckon the ignition £100 and the sensor £3-400
    Car “value” about £1500

I’d do it, Volvo with that milage isn’t really an issue to sell when the time comes.

So would I, for the same reasons. It’s probably not too far off being as cheap as it will ever go for a relatively low mileage nice condition car. Worth sinking a bit of cost to keep it going.

I’d get it fixed no question.

At those costs get it fixed.

Unless you have no need for a car that size with towing capability?

    Good!

Insurance seems pricy though? Where do you live, Baghdad?

You can probably fix most of those problems yourself and save a fortune

    I’m in the same situation 2005 V70 145,000 miles.
Have had to spend a bit on it recently, highlight was a new water pump.
The hand brake issue is most likely that they are self adjusting and that gives up working after a while.
Keep thinking about getting rid of mine but it’s an excellent motor so I’m keeping mine!

really want to keep it as inside is like a cruise ship lol!! SOOOOOOOOOOO comfy!
Outside is in VGC and i’m only 3rd owner. Waterpump etc were done at 100k

I am assuming if they had the ability to do so, then they would have.

Essentially want to keep it until November 2019 (at least) when all my old loans etc are paid off and i can buy a car outright without my arm being up my back!!
