Meeting up with some friends havent seen for a while equidistant for relative homes – and cannock is the only place

Never been before so no idea how good it is? Is it Hilly?
Do i need to fix my full suss or will a SS with big forks do?
Does it get muddy (trailraker tyres) or not (low profile jobbies)?

Any tips on good places off the trails too would be greta

hills – theres 1 climb about 1/3'rd of the way through, but its only a few 100m in length and about 50m in elevation. The rest is mainly short'n'sharp.

tires – summer tires, even in the winter when its muddy the corners are well built enough to hold you on line if your confident drifting.

Gears – not nececary, but its best ridden flat out if you want a challenge.

bike – 5" hardtail, the anthem-X was probably faster, and just as fun, but the hardtail just felt nicer.

tacky tyres all year, some of the cambers require a bit of extra grip if you are flat out in the smoother corners.

any bike will do, SS is the preferred steed of locals.

you are unlikely to get any advice on off piste stuff (local trails for local people), just take a gps, mark the visitor centre on it and explore, you can't go far wrong and a bit of map work before hand will identify some key features (roads and old railway) that aid navigation

I assume are talking about FollowYourDad, it is rolling decents /climbs, only 1 bit has any stepth to it.

Any bike,its not rocky, SS will do if you cant afford a proper bike.

It never gets muddy, sandy gravel surface can get slippy due to exposed pebbles and after rainthe holes in the (very well used) trail can become puddles.

The rest of the Chase has many sweet trails but you need to hook up with someone localish to link it together and it not turn into a confusing afternoon of dead ends and fireroads >

Review for those who may do a search:

Cannock is like Thetford on Hills. Admittedly not massive hills but it makes the most of what its got – like Thetford. The Follow The Dog (FTD) is a good intro to some intermediate without being scary trails. Theres enough in the forest to have a blast for a day or 2's riding, and practice makes it even better as going fast it what its all about.

Most of the sections are well laid out and surfaced so as mentioned in posts in this thread, unless animals are pairing up summer tacky tires will be all you need

There is loads to explore and the new trails look like they should be winners too – but as they say dont ride them till there open, these places take a lot of time to put together and if you haven't put in some work dont damage stuff others have or you're a c*ck.

All in it was a cracking ride, and if had more time would have stayed longer!
