It depends on the bike but it can be brilliant- I’ve had one in my Hemlock for years, there’s no chance I’d still be riding it without it but with the 2 degrees off the head angle it’s (imo) just a much better bike. My C456 wasn’t so much better, as different. But I’d be surprised if it works so well for everything.
I’ve always used Works ones- much cheaper, and less moving parts so none of the creaking/squeaking people complain of with Cane Creek. Only downside is that they go through top bearings faster than most headsets, I don’t really know why… But it’s a standard cane creek S3 bearing in the Works (also takes Hope bearings) so cheap to replace.
