And if so, how do you get the old paint off and what sort of new paint process is suitable?

    And who does it?

See the post above titled “Carbon Frames….”

If I did repaint I would just key the old paint with fine sandpaper, degrease, clean thoroughly and respray, then lacquer several times.

Powdercoating involves baking in an oven. That could be really bad.

As above, spraypainting and lacquer should do it.

Take it to a specialist pain shop and let them do it would be my advice

You should be able to spray it. You would leave the old paint on as above and just roughen it with sand paper to help the new paint stick better.

Chemical strippers will eat away at the resin holding the fibres together.
Abrasive blasting (like shot, grit etc.) will probably be too harsh for the frame to take.
Definately a no on powder coating because the heat to cure the paint will damage the structural resin.

My first joice would be to look at Argos.

Sand down by hand, respray. Total PITA (i’ve done it).

Pay someone to do it, it’ll be more expensive than metal (cos it needs stripped by hand).

Fibre Lyte do carbon frame repairs and by the look of the finished product, they do a ‘respray’ of sorts. get in touch and see how much it costs.

    Then let me know….

    Argos Racing Cycles do it
