  • Can you gut the shifting mechanism from SRAM HydroR?

Thinking of buying SRAM hydror brakes and shifters for my cross bike, but I’ll run 1×11.

Rather than buying CX1, I was thinking of buying Rival, and gutting the LH shifter because a) it’s cheaper, and b) I’ll have a LH shifter if I decide I need it one day (e.g. for 3 peaks or something).

At the moment I am running 1×10 with Force, and gutting the LH shifter was pretty straightforward.

I guess you can gut anything if you try hard enough.
I’ve got hydro R . Obviously the main lever doesnt ‘swing ‘ like Shimano STI .
Couldnt you just remove the cable, but live with the flappy gear lever bit intact ?
That way , all you’d ever need to do is re-cable it , should the need arise ?

Are the guts really too heavy to not just live with ?
