39/25 is quite a big lowest gear OG. I run 46/39 and 13/26

38 x 18 or 38 x 16 depending on the amount of mud for the few races I’ve done.

I now have 34/46 x 12/25 for commuting with my little skinny legs on the road but i will be having a bash at some local races.

Have you seen the Rapha CX series?

    42 – 12-27.

Two third places so far this season, so working out well

How often do you change rings LS, 38/44 is really tight?

Not that often to be honest, the inner is there for really sticky days or the odd steep bit. The 44 gives a good enough chainline to be able to run 44/24 with no problems so the 38 only really gains me two lower ratios.
I’ve thought about going single ring but in the end just couldn’t be bothered.

Lower than 38/27 and I find it quicker to run.

38/46 with a 12-29 casette at the moment but going to give 1×10 a go with a 40-12/29

38/46, 12-25. Anything lower and it’s quicker running.

Single 44 with 12-27 this year, I have a bail out 42t option in case the going gets heavy…. When I started racing cross I used to have a 41/48 front and 12-27 rear.

38/46 13/29 and the 29 does get used.Chrisheath said it is quicker to run rather than use lower than 38/25 i disagree if you can stay on the bike you loose less time dismounting and remounting you dont risk clogging up shoes and pedals and i reckon your heart rate stays a bit lower.whenever you watch the pros they ride everything they can and the bits they don’t aren’t rideable i.e. to steep

38 & 12/27 on both bikes. i’m not super fit these days, but it works for me.
i agree with benw, in that when i’m in 38/27, i am spinning quite fast but i am a lightweight good climber so i don’t waste time mounting and remounting.
    if i was a bit fitter, i would probably ride 40 & 12/27.
