I only recently noticed how fab the woods near the beach would be if I had a fat bike and wondered if I could sneak one under a thousand to get it on Halfords C2W somewhere that would do that.

Singlespeed would be perfectly acceptable, I think – especially if I had two rear wheels with different ratios on them somehow.

I think your only way to get a fat bike for a grand will be to wait for On One. It’s been said that they’re hoping to sell a full bike for £999. Can’t see anything happening until spring though 🙁

Would be a pity to miss out on using it at its favourite time of year!

Just thinking – I have a spare Middleburn crankset and Hope Mono Minis lying around – maybe somewhere that can supply everything else but might get the price under the magic number?

With some very careful kit selection you might just sneak under a grand … no idea about doing it on C2W though. Maybe have a word with the Bike Monger about a frame.

As has been mentioned, the On-one is going to be £999 but its a while away yet. It’ll be worth the wait though- the ride is spot on and the spec is going to be pretty special as well.

Once that’s released, and people realise just how much better they are to ride, the ordinary 26″ hardtail is doomed.

The only people riding them will be racers.

And why wouldn’t a fat bike get passed? I ride down the side of a river – a fat bike would allow me to ride further up the rivers (where it gets a bit more loamy) and take a shorter train journey, thereby improving my fitness.

Interesting – people buy bikes with suspension on via the C2W scheme – or are they banned in manchester, too? 🙂

I guess everything is up for interpretation and, so far as I’m aware, there is no rule in the scheme saying what type of bike must be purchased, so long as it is ridden to work regularly (!).

Quite why a fat bike would be significantly less efficient than your average Halfords special, I’m not sure (or am I missing something about fat bikes?)

Anyway – if anyone knows of a likely fat bike dealer in the list above (short of me ringing them all!) I’d be interested to know.
