    for my work etc.

I have been to Dell and Mesh. But would rather get a small / medium UK firm to help us.

I need low spec PC’s with 3 years hardware support / warranty.

    Anyone ?

HP are reliable kit IMHO…. yes, I know they’re not UK….

With that many PCs, I would want a well known company behind the machines.

Where abouts in the country are you?

John Cooke, Surrey Computers is very good and honest. 020 8660 3767.

Clearly if you’re in South Lanarkshire then he may not be the one for you 😉

Novatech are preety ace by all accounts.

AVOID Mesh, nothing wrong with the products, but the delivery and after sales is woeful. Premium rate numbers for tech support to Indian call centres and clueless staff.

    tobyho,

You can also try Phil Mason from Curbac Ltd on 020 8763 9001.

Both Phil and John are ‘good guys’ who’ll listen to what you want and advise you accordingly – even if it means not supplying you.

Hardsoft (funny name, I know), they specialise in leasing and should be able to help.
They’re based in the herts / Essex area – would be worth a call if nothing else :]

Can’t remember their number but should be contactable by the website http://www.hardsoft.co.uk

You’d be mad not to go with someone like Dell IMO. Any small UK builder is a lot less likely to be around in 3 years time and there’s no way they can support that many PCs at the level someone like Dell can.

If it’s your own company and you’re really keen to line the pockets of someone in the UK fair enough (remember the parts will all come from abroad anyway), if you work for a company though and want to keep your job I’d do the sensible thing and buy from an established vendor.

HP or Fujitsu with mainteance agreements from my experience in working in large enterprise and smaller sub enterprise level IT Depts – keep the small vendors for small company work <50 machines.

Get a problem and you will have same day parts installed by a site visit.

The pc ( and even smartphone) has become so vital to productivity these days and yet IT is still an area where shortcuts are taken. Having one PC down for a day will limit staff and frustrate them its just not worth having a non experienced company manage the deployment and rollout of a refresh and mantenance programme.

My dealings with Computacentre have been fine I must admit.

on the basis of that post, I wouldn’t touch taran with a barge pole…

Surely has to be a company like Dell? That’s a lot of PC’s to entrust to a relatively small outfit. Also +1 on not skimping on IT kit & maintenance/future investment.

Another thing to think about is how are you going to finance this? If you’re opening an account with a new supplier than sometimes you’ll need to pay £X up front – even if you have an excellent credit rating.

200 PCs is a fair wad – not to the likes of Dell, but certainly to many small/niche/local VARS. Hence you might struggle to get them to actually accept the order because they’ll normally have to manage the “build debt” until you cough up.

I do know a VAR that handle these numbers (I used to work for them), but they’ve since moved out of London to Essex. Fair size provider into NHS so the number aren’t an issue. If you’re interested, PM me.

I gave Duncan the heads up on this one, I guess I should have recomended him on reflection, but was a bit busy so suggested he registered. He is a keen MTB’er and lurks around here anyway, even though he hadn’t posted before.

I went to school with his MD and have had many dealings with Duncan over the last 15 years buying both servers and PC’s, and have no hesitation in recomending them.
