i had this idea to ‘skin’ a nackered arione saddle, trim it (the pointy bit at the back is bad for steep drops- oof!) and then cover it in carbon fibre to made a seat for my mountain bike. is this worth even considering?

Probably not in CF, but go to a motorbike shop and ask about saddle re-covering, they usually know a man who does it..
