After recommendations for a campsite in the southern Dales area.

Preferably somewhere that's likely to have vacancies this weekend!!

Not sure if it's southern enough but the campsite in Horton in Ribblesdale is nice. I don't think they take bookings, but worth a phone to check. The man who runs it is a bit crazy (in a good way), and the showers etc. are pretty agricultural, but it is dead cheap and perfectly situated, and it seems like most of the people who stay there are walkers / bikers and the like, which is nice.

Funny, the two occasions we stayed there, we vowed never to return. infact the last time, we lasted one night and then packed up and asked for our money back. The problem was not with the campers, it was the blooby farmer/owner, who insists on playing banging music constantly, presumably he thinks people like it.

In the same area, the one at Austwick is much nicer and quiet. There's a decent one at Stainforth I think.
