Camping & caravan club site in Keswick, right in the twon so easy access to pencil museum 🙂 It’s on the lake so can go paddling, good playpark on site.

Also camping & caravan club site in Boot (Eskdale), our favourite site, no playpark as such but our son always had a great time playing in the natural playpark, the trees. Some great pubs within walking distance too 🙂 and there’s the miniature railway.

Although both may be 2 night bookings at weekends. Although both sites have ‘backpackers’ areas so shouldn’t be an issue.

Edit: Boot site doesn’t appear to be a camping and caravan club site anymore but has it’s own website here

Sykeside by Brotherswater is great and will do 1 night bookings. It’s is next to the Brotherswater Inn and has a small bar and shop on site too.
There isn’t a play area but it’s got a lot of space, is in a lovely valley with lots of sheep and a nice little tarn to keep you both busy.

Baysbrown campsite in langdale is nice too. No playpark but it does have a shallow wide slow river that is great for paddling. Close the pub too.

We loved Boot campsite before it became camping and caravanning club, but then found it too crowded. Hopefully thats changed again now.

Coniston Park Coppice, although a Caravan & Motorhome Club site also takes tents.

It has a play area and access to Coniston Water, along with good shower & toilet facilities and on site shop.

You can walk into Coniston from it without going near the road, too, most of which is alongside the Water.

I would second Park Coppice, we’ve been several times with the caravan, several parks, lots of grounds to wander in for an adventure (some of it quite steep though) and easy access to the village.

Waterside Farm at Pooley Bridge. My ten year old loves it there as there’s so much room to run about. There is a small play area but there are rowing boats, canoes and kayaks for hire too as it’s right on the lakeside. Pleasant 15 minute walk into Pooley Bridge itself.

The view from our tent last month
