Going for a few days to explore the dorset coast. VW camper, with small kids. I like less commercial sites but will want showers.

where you been? what do you know?

Doing kiddy camping weekend here with the Dads this summer. We did the sister site last year. An ‘eco’ site so facilities are basic, but there were showers. Allow open fires which is a plus.

    Eweleaze

Otherwise we go here almost every year too.

It’s a campsite, not a description of my cooking.

Basic, quiet, cheap, no phone signal. Bliss.

Sea Barn Farm. Its sister site is a short walk away, but is slightly more commercialised. You can use facilities such as the outdoor pool without a charge when you stay at either site

thisisnotaspoon, have you been to burnbake since they removed 1/2 the pitches to build the concentration camp?

Thisisnotaspoon, its a crying shame but in many ways its lost its magic. We’ve been going there for generations, but now we’re on the look out for a replacement. Of course, it’s great if you want an “eco” lodge, wide screen tv, and a hot tub.

wide screen tv, and a hot tub.

I’ll avoid giving the Mrs this news, it would break her heart.

toms fields i a lovely spot, but can be a bit chaotic on a weekend. There are no pitches and they don’t take bookings so it can be very crowded. Having said that, they do take bookings and use set pitches during the school holidays only, but I would think their pretty well booked up by now.

We used Acton Field for Charlie’s Gravel Dash, its almost next door to Tom’s Field mentioned above.

On a ridge so stunning 270 degree views out to sea, over Swanage Bay towards the IOW, and inland.

Showers and toilets were fine, not much to do for kids on-site though so depends if you are looking to head out each day or not.

Stayed here Rosewall Camping on the late May Bank Holiday.

Very nice site, good facilities, plenty of room, close to beach and pub.
