people were camping close to the lifts when we were there a few years ago – don’t know how formal a campsite it was but it looked like there would be some facilties and close to town too

We camped in Allemont (well, we hired a static actually but it’s a nice campsite too 🙂 ). The place was full of riders (Tracey Mosely amongst others), had a great atmosphere and was handy enough for the racing – a bit more of a trek to the start in the morning but perfect for the finish – a leisurely DH from the qualifier finish and the Mega itself finishes just behind the camp site. Those in Alps D’Huez have a lift back from the qualifier and have to queue for buses after the main race.

The only disadvantage is it’s a bit quiet, and you have to drive up to Alp d’Huez on the Friday evening to get your race boards for the main event.

Seconded for fbk’s recommendation of Allemont. Nice little site amongst the trees with a pool along the road.
