    STW

I fancy a weekend away camping in a few months, around July time.

Are there any suggestions from the STW posse that would be just grand for some back to basics camping, facilities would be nice but not essential, a good pub and riding are the most important factors. Somewhere that a car could remain while we’re out too.

    cheers and thanks in advance,
    Jonathan.

Side Farm by Ullswater is a lovely spot and handy for Helvellyn/High Street, plus has a decent pub nearby.

Scotgate is nice. Gets crowded though,

Stayed at Buttermere weekend before last, really nice, great pub with good food and a perfect base for riding, we did Red Pike then the Four Passes.

Oh yeah, lovely camping in Buttermere – never ridden there though.

    FoxyChick,

I was at gillside most of last week. The weather at night was blooming terrible, gales and proper rain. But yeah, that is also my fav. campsite because it’s so easy to get to by public transport, it’s got local shops / pubs, and it’s right near Helvellyn;)

Mind you 20p for 5 mins of shower is a bit steep, and there’s lots of sheep poop around 😕

    Did just that last year.
Parked at Wasdale Head, camped one night there. On bike with gear to Buttermere and camped there, back to Wasdale for a night.
Damn good long weekend but as much handbagging as riding.

Try the one at Stonethwaite or the one at the head of the road.

Sykeside is a great spot, handy for High Street and with a pub on site.
