Have just opened a bottle of the orange stuff and mixed it 1:3 with tonic water. It’s ok, but not setting my tastebuds alight.

If you don’t come up with anything I’ve a bottle of Aperol, some prosecco, soda water and half an orange on standby.

    Lemonade?

Is Campari the same as vermouth? If so 50/50 with bourbon works.

Got given a bottle in my late teens, was the most disgusting drink I ever tasted. I could not find a mixer that masked the taste.

But, being skint I did manage to drink the bottle eventually!

Negroni is a personal favourite. 1 pt Campari, 1 sweet (red) vermouth, 1 or 2 parts gin depending on how headbanging you want it. Lots of ice, zest from the orange.

As a long drink best with good quality orange juice.

Tonic water adds too much bitterness and you lose the flavour of the Campari.

We discovered Picon a couple of years back. A French orange based bitter drink that is often drunk with lager. It’s a great way of making any cooking lager anyone leaves at your house palatable. I’m wondering if a bit of campari might work in the same way.

I remember being taught there are only 9 cocktails worth making or drinking; every barman should make them perfectly and uniformly. The Negroni is one of them.

    Negroni:

    2 parts Bombay Sapphire
    1 part Campari
    1 part sweet vermouth

Stir over ice. Pour into chilled rocks glass with large cubes of ice and long twist of orange peel. Some say to stir the drink with the peel but I like the oils slowly releasing and chilling the peel too much stops it.

The other 8 (I was told) are:

    Old Fashioned
Cosmopolitan (proper one, not sickly sweet versions)
    Long Island Iced Tea
    Caipirinah
    Martini (and variations)
    White Russian
    Bloody Mary
    G&T

Hmmm…. the Campari:tonic water was the serving suggestion on the bottle.

Got lots of Gordon’s in the garage, but no vermouth.

Cointreau? Add a little lime instead of orange to stop it becomming too sweet.

    +1 for Negroni.

Just don’t down it like it’s Pimms, or you’ll regret it tomorrow!

Just make a Campari Spritz, recipe as above.

Personally, I love 1 part Campari with 2 parts soda water and lots of ice. That or a Negroni cocktail.

Campari Spritz isn’t doing it for me…. I had two just to be sure.

    Prefer Aperol in my spritz.

Will buy some vermouth tomorrow in preparation of the weekend.

And I’m sure I saw some elderflower syrup at the back of the cupboard. Might get some mint leaves and try a Campari Milano tomorrow, too…..

    This:

    Campari spritz.
    3 parts prosecco
    2 parts Campari
    1 part soda water
    Serve with ice

Or I prefer Aperol spritz myself.

Campari I tend to mix with fresh orange juice.
